POWER + WATER MIDDLE EAST 2011
Event Information
Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates and one of the wealthiest cities in the world, is currently undergoing a period of significant growth. With expectations of a three-fold increase in population figures by 2030, the Abu Dhabi government is implementing and encouraging major investment programs. As part of these initiatives, the water and electricity supply sector in the northern emirates will be expanded with a substantial investment of Dh5.7 billion (around $1.55 billion).
One of the key projects in this expansion plan is the construction of a 100-kilometer main water pipeline. This pipeline will stretch from Kalba, located at the southern end of the UAE's East Coast, to Dibba in the north, passing through the cities of Fujairah and Khor Fakkan. With an estimated cost of Dh900 million, this pipeline will supply a staggering 23 million imperial gallons per day (Migd) to Fujairah, while also providing 5 Migd each to Khor Fakkan, Dibba, and Kalba, and 3 Migd to Dhadnah. Additionally, a 60-kilometer pipeline costing Dh300 million will be built to supply 18 Migd of water to the emirate of Umm Al Quwain.
As part of this ambitious expansion plan, a new main transmission station with a capacity of 400 kV will be constructed at a cost of Dh500 million. Furthermore, a 36-kilometer main pipeline costing Dh158 million will be built to supply water to Ras Al Khaimah. To support the increased demand for electricity, two power plants with a capacity of 132 KV will be constructed in Kalba and Khor Fakkan, with a total cost of Dh220 million. These projects present an excellent opportunity for companies in the power and water sector to showcase their expertise and collaborate with the Abu Dhabi government in shaping the future of the region's infrastructure.
