Discover the fascinating history behind the world's largest exhibition for the solar industry. Originally organized in Pforzheim by the Working Group for Environmental Technology, this one-day event aimed to actively promote the development of solar technology. What started with just five solar companies presenting their products soon grew into Germany's most important exhibition for solar technology, attracting 84 companies in 1995.
Under the leadership of Markus Elsässer, CEO of Solar Promotion GmbH, the event expanded beyond Germany's borders and relocated to Freiburg. Partnering with Freiburg Wirtschaft Touristik und Messe GmbH (FWTM), the exhibition found a professional environment to host representatives from Europe's growing solar industry. The move to Freiburg marked the beginning of the Intersolar era, which saw the first Intersolar exhibition in 2000, attracting 200 exhibitors and 11,000 visitors.
Since then, Intersolar has become a well-established event across Europe, expanding to Munich in 2008 with FWTM as its co-organizer. This new location allowed the exhibition to further develop, attracting exhibitors from the supply industry and expanding its offerings to include PV production technology. The success of Intersolar led to the inception of Intersolar North America in San Francisco in 2008 and Intersolar India in Mumbai in 2009. With its expert and international audiences, the Intersolar exhibitions provide the ideal platform for promoting the development of solar technology, just as envisioned by the event's founders in 1991.
